Jonathan Geer: News

Libertango available on iTunes! - August 12, 2010

APQ's debut album, Libertango, is now available on CD Baby, iTunes, eMusic and many other digital download sites.  I'll be doing a big music update next week so get your ears ready!

Back from Colorado! - June 30, 2010

APQ had a great time in Colorado last week and as much as we're glad to be home we all miss that cool evening air.  I've added some dates to the calendar for the rest of the summer.  We'll have a CD release party in San Antonio at the end of July and one in Austin at the end of August.

I've put up my soundtrack to David Galindo's game, "The Oil Blue" on bandcamp.com.  It's a name-your-price system so you can download it for free or send a couple bucks my way.

Listen to APQ on the radio next week. Live from CO! - June 20, 2010

APQ is hitting the road tomorrow.  Or hitting the clouds.  Both actually.  James Anderson, the violinist and his wife Heather (aka 'band manager') are driving and the rest of us lucky bastards are flying.  We have a couple of radio interviews/performances next week and since I'm not sure how often I'll be on the internet I thought I'd let you know about them now in case you want to tune in.

June 22nd @ 4:20pm - http://www.kuvo.org/index.php?s=94

June 23rd @ Noon - http://krfcfm.org/listen.php

There are things to click on both of those pages that will let you listen to a live stream.

APQ's debut album, "Libertango" now available online! - June 19, 2010

You can listen to Austin Piazzolla Quintet's entire album before buying and download in just about any format you can imagine thanks to bandcamp.com.  Take a listen here:

http://austinpiazzollaquintet.bandcamp.com/

Be sure to check out my two original tunes on the CD - "Esquina Vals" and "Ghost Milonga".

I've also added all the dates for our CO tour to the calendar page and I've added a couple new music tracks in the "Games" section of the music page.  They're from "The Oil Blue" coming out in just a few days.  They'll show up in the flash player at the top of the page as well.

The Oil Blue - Coming Soon! - June 15, 2010

A PC game called "The Oil Blue", which I wrote all the music for, is going to be coming out very soon and there's a great write-up on it over at indiegames.com.  I've heard people say that the timing couldn't be worse for an oil-rigging simulation game and while that's hard to argue with in light of recent events, if you follow that train of thought then there's never really a great time to release first person shooters either.

That being said, I've played the demo and it's quite an atmospheric and inventive game.  If you have any interested in indie games at all at least check out the demo!  Check back tomorrow for some music from the game!

Lots of activity! (just not on the updating front) - June 12, 2010

I missed my goal of at least an update a month this year.  It has not been because of a lack of activity though!  Rather too much activity :-)  The Austin Piazzolla Quintet has finished its first album!  Recorded and mixed right here at Pot of Earth Studios (aka "my garage").  We're all very proud of it and would love for you to buy copies for all your friends and family!  It will be available through CDBaby shortly and on iTunes soon after.  I'll post another update with more details as soon as that happens!

I'll be updating the calendar this coming week with a lot more dates for all you local folks.  There will be a couple dates for out-of-towners too though!  APQ will be having a couple CD release parties and road trips are highly encouraged!  One will be at the end of July in San Antonio and another at the end of August here in Austin.

Keep checking back this week for updates.  I'm planning on doing one every other day or so to tell you about everything else that's been going on.  And also just to keep things interesting around here :)

Sparkle HD on iPad + more LIVE music dates! - April 9, 2010

Sparkle is out on iPad now!  AppSafari says "The iPad version has fine tuned sharp graphics, smooth gameplay and the soundtrack created by Jonathan Geer which is nothing short of a masterpiece".  So if you're one of the early adopters playing with Steve's pad be sure to check it out.

I've also added quite a few dates to the calendar (mostly for the locals, but road trips are encouraged!).

Sparkle released on iPhone / iPod - March 5, 2010

Sparkle is now out for iPhone / iPod Touch!  And it's only $2.99!  If you haven't tried it out now's the time.  Check it out HERE.

Video from last Friday's performance - March 1, 2010

Thank you to everyone who came out to the first performance of the Anderson Lane Ensemble this past Friday!  It was great to have such a big supportive audience for our debut concert.  If you missed it though you can check it out online.  Here are the links:

And while I'm at it thanks to all the folks at Esquina Tango as well.  The Austin Piazzolla Quintet had an AWESOME time playing there and can't wait to do it again!

Austin Performances This Weekend - February 24, 2010

If you're in the Austin area this weekend I'm playing in a couple concerts.  The first is the debut performance of the Anderson Lane Ensemble on Friday evening starting at 7:30pm at the Blackerby Concert Hall.  We'll be doing some music I wrote specifically for the group called "Deep Ocean Suite" as well as Piano Quintets by Dohnányi and Borodin.  Then on Saturday evening the Austin Piazzolla Quintet will be doing a showcase from 9pm - Midnight at Esquina Tango.  Tickets are $10 at the door.  Come see some live music!

Age of Tribes on iPhone - February 5, 2010

Just a quick note to let you know that "Age of Tribes" was released for iPhone today.  It features a full original soundtrack and custom sfx from your very own Jonny Geer.  Go kill some hours.  Check it out!

Quietly Working - January 26, 2010

I'm falling behind here!  Only because I've been quietly and feverishly working on my piano quintet for a February 11th concert.  It's a suite of pieces inspired by the book "The Deep" by Claire Nouvian.  Even if you're not in Austin you can watch a live stream of the concert online.  I'll post more details on that later.

The APQ (Austin Piazzolla Quintet) has been playing like crazy and I've just put up a lot of new dates on the calendar page for all you local folks.

Free Dragon Portals Music Download - November 16, 2009

To coincide with an update to the iPhone version of Dragon Portals which will add all my music back into the game I'm releasing the soundtrack as a free download.  Just right-click and choose "save as" on the individual links or the ZIP file link to download the entire soundtrack.  And be sure to check out Dragon Portals HERE if you have an iPhone.  Enjoy!

The Austin Piazzolla Quintet - November 9, 2009

It has been a while, but there are actually some dates on the calendar now!  I'm part of a new group called the Austin Piazzolla Quintet. You can probably guess what we do.  We have two performances coming up this Sunday, November 15th so if you're in Austin be sure to come check it out.  You can find more details on the calendar page.

Sync-Music CD Complete, New Samples! - October 26, 2009

A quick note here to let you know that my Instrumental World CD for Sync-Music is complete (although there may be additional tracks added on in the future). Check it out HERE.

The whole idea behind this particular library consists of a system of layering the parts of each piece to give people more flexibility in how they use the music. You can actually play around with it on the website and see how it works. I also put samples of a few of the pieces here on my site, but you can hear all of them over at Sync-Music.

Ancient Tribes and Sync Music - October 6, 2009

Howdy from Texas.  I don't think I've ever used the word howdy in real life, but it doesn't seem to bother my online persona as much.  So I've been working hard on music for a couple different projects lately.  One is a CD of contemporary world fusion tracks for Sync Music.  I'll post some samples soon and a link when it's all put together.

And I'm currently working on music and sfx for an iphone game called Ancient Tribes.  Samples to come soon as well!  Also, a lot of my music has just been added to Royalty-free.tv's site HERE.  Thanks Gavin and Liz!

Newness Abounds - September 11, 2009

Same great website, now with 50 percent more newness! New layout! New music! New free downloads for you!

I've been meaning to put up these two free music downloads for a while, but alas... I'm slow. These two tracks were recorded at The Congregational Church of Christ here in Austin, TX about a month ago. It was the last Sunday I spent with our wonderful cellist and all-around great guy, Robin Rosson. I wrote a piece for us to play called Terra Incognita and I also performed my arrangement of There is a Balm In Gilead.  The piano is a bit of out tune and the bench is pretty squeaky.  But it adds... umm.. character, yes?

There's also a decent amount of new music in the flash player and on the music page if you feel like browsing.  Thanks for stopping by!

Lots of Gaming News - August 24, 2009

So here's the rundown:

Dragon Portals is out on iPhone now!  I think it's still at an introductory sale price of $0.99, but that's ending very soon.  Unfortunately, most of the music I wrote is not in the iPhone version, but a few notes do remain.

My amazing indie game making friend, David Galindo, has released Shellblast HD in the Xbox Live Indie Games Marketplace.  There's a trailer HERE with some JonnyAudio music.

Marker Man Adventures (which I wrote all the music for) comes out this week for the Nintendo DS.  I'll be posting another update soon and adding some new music to the site.

Jonny Audio is Live! - July 20, 2009

I've just launched a new website called Jonny Audio where you can purchase any music track or sfx from my non-exclusive royalty-free library. You can also request new music or sfx to be created. There is more info on this feature at the site if you want to check it out.

JonnyAudio

I'll be updating every week with new music and sfx so check back often!

Owlboy Interview - June 30, 2009

Just wanted to post a quick note to let you know about an Owlboy interview over at Reset Glitch. I haven't done much work on the game recently, but I'm hoping we will keep chugging along and eventually finish the thing...

Sound Booth Pictures / New Website - June 25, 2009

My sound booth is nearing completion thanks to a huge influx of family over the weekend (thank you family!). I'm just working on finishing up the front door panel and then I'll install all the acoustic foam next week. I put some pictures of the whole process up on Flickr if you're curious:

Sound Booth Pictures
Over the last couple weeks I've also been working on a new website where anyone looking for production music will be able to purchase tracks for immediate download directly from my library. The basic site should be up sometime next month and I plan on consistently updating it with new features and content. I'm also thinking of migrating during the summers. The heat is apocalyptic here.

SoundDogs and Sound Booths - June 8, 2009

What's this? An update every month?? That's what I'm shooting for anyway. SoundDogs recently added my catalog of music and sfx to their site and there is a new link for it on the "links" page. Marker Man Adventures, which I did all the music for, is coming out next month on the Nintendo DS so keep your eyes (and ears) peeled.

I'm going to be building a couple 4 x 6 sound booths in my studio this month (with the help of some gracious family members). I'll take pictures of the whole process and put them on my flickr page when it's finished.

Dragon Portals released for Mac/PC - May 9, 2009

Just wanted to let everyone know that Dragon Portals is now available for purchase for both Mac and PC. It really is a charming little game (with some lovely music) and you should at least try it out. You can play up to an hour for free so go for it! Click HERE to go to the website. I just recently finished some music for Kablooey!, currently being developed by David Galindo of Vertigo Games. There should be a trailer up on the site soon for you to check out.

With each news update I'm also adding just a bit of new or different music to the music page as well as changing up what's in the flash player.  Do something nice for your mom tomorrow!

New Site / Dragon Portals on Mac & PC - April 22, 2009

You might've noticed the site has changed a bit if you haven't been by in a while. One cool new feature is the flash player up at the very tip top of the page. I could've set it to play automatically when you open the page, but I figured I'd give you the courtesy of making that decision for yourself. It has quite a few full-length tracks of some of my latest work so feel free to turn it on while you browse.

According to the Dragon Portals website, it looks like the game will indeed be available for both Mac and PC. And maybe even on day 1 from the sound of it. Yay for the Mac love!

Tetrigami and Dragon Portals - April 10, 2009

Ok... so I'm still a bit slow with the news updates.  I think my website might be going through a BIG update soon though.  It should make it a bit easier for me to update my music samples as well so I will probably be doing that a bit more regularly.

So I met this guy named Joe.  We made a little game together.  Joe did all the code and I did all the graphics and sound.  It's a tetris clone with a little origami flavor.  If you have a PC you can download it and try it out.  There is no love for the Mac on this.  (Joe did get it running on his wife's Mac though... so who knows...)  This was a fun side project for us spurred by my desire to collaborate with someone and FINISH something.  It isn't perfect, but it's not too shabby for something we put together in our spare time over the last couple months.  We're tossing around some ideas for our next project and I'm excited to get going on it.  You can check out Tetrigami HERE.

Tetrigami
Last fall I created the music for another Mythpeople game called Dragon Portals.  It was a lot of fun and I'm very proud of the music in the game.  It's coming out sometime in May.  It will be available only on PC, but I'm guessing they might port it to Mac later like they did with Sparkle.  Check it out HERE.

Happy Easter!
